Story
I grew up in northwest Indiana, just 45 minutes south of Chicago. From an early age, I knew I loved two things: music and the church. In fact, I have a journal from 5th grade where, when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I only wrote down two things, “Pastor or singer/songwriter”. I struggled with deciding which route to go and I felt annoyed when everyone suggested worship pastor because up to that point, I hadn’t met a worship pastor that I believed was a good musician or a good pastor (a bit egotistical, but I was young). In high school, I had not only a wonderful experience with what became my home church but also felt the call to full-time ministry. So I decided to attend a Bible college and run hard after it. As I was entering college though, I had also been wrestling with the state of spirituality, not just mine, but the way many churches like mine grew the spirituality of their congregations. So my interest in spiritual formation was ignited in college and it’s what led me to major in Christian Spiritual Formation.
Over the last few years, I’ve been discerning a call to worship ministry and spiritual formation. And I’ve been sensing that I should give my ministry career to these things, not only to work in it but to do work with it, teach on it, and be part of the conversation around it. My hope is to be a helpful voice in the world of worship and formation in the coming decades and be a resource to worship leaders, pastors, and worship teams who are journeying to create transformative worship.
